Risk Tolerance vs Risk Capacity
The term risk tolerance is widely used but not always the appropriate measure when determining the risk of your portfolio. Risk tolerance is a personal preference and fluctuates in response to market shocks. Risk tolerance is different for everyone. Risk capacity is a fixed metric independent of risk tolerance. Your risk capacity is how much risk you must take (or accept) in order to reach your financial goals.
